1947 Rene Herse - Concours de Machines

Click for large!

Seriously, view at high res!

Yes this is a polo blog, but- as my little corner of the web- it's also a repository for all bike related awesomeness. And there's nothing more awesome than a vintage Rene Herse. This is from a fantastic book i found at the local library called "the Golden Age of Handbuilt Bicycles". While it primarily focuses on the French constructeurs that's quite alright with me! Polo, peugeots, and poverty seem to be my favorite themes around here. I have a few more i scanned that i'll post at a later time, but for now I hope you enjoy these photos as much as i do.

EDIT: I'd like to respectably acknowledge that these photos were take by J.P. Praderes, who does extremely high quality photography of bicycles, motorcyles and more. Check out his site at

David's Bike Polo Check from Tim on Vimeo.

As seen over on Doug's site. I love it- polo humour plus california nostalgia. It's been waaay too long since i visited the City of Angels.

Here's the other "bike check" as posted by Eli of the 818.

Midwestern Championships 8 - MPLS part III

The end...

Many, many thanks to Sven, Bjorn, Dustin, John and the rest of the Minneapolis crew. People like them and events like this are why I love the Midwest.
